Looking for remedies for under eye bags that actually work? Under eye bags are a common concern for many, and even though they can be caused by a million factors, the best way to get rid of them in the long term is by making some easy changes in your daily habits. Some of the most common causes of bags under the eyes are fatty deposits called festoons, fluid buildup, and excess skin from hereditary traits, stress, lack of sleep, and other factors.
Whatever it is that’s causing your eyes to puff; I’m sure you’re just about ready to get rid of the problem. For me, our eyes are what makes us unique, and making sure they look their best is key to putting our best face forward. Puffy eyes can make us look tired and as though we didn’t get a good night’s rest, which is not the best look in any situation!
1. Make the most out of your sleep
Drink plenty of water
There is an endless repertoire of products that claim to help with under-eye bags. That said, though, they don’t always work, so I decided to write some helpful tips to help you reduce puffiness and lighten the area under your eyes, some of which you can try right from the comfort of your home!

1. Make the most out of your sleep
It’s no secret that getting a good night’s sleep is key to a healthy life, and it’s one of my #1 tips to improve your skin’s health and yep – preventing under eye bags! I don’t think I need to tell you that getting at least eight hours of sleep every night is incredibly important for you, but I thought I’d share some super helpful tips that will help you make the most out of your bedtime.
2. Use a silk pillowcase
It’s no secret that silk pillowcases are my go-to for ANYTHING skin care (plus, they’re comfy!), so this naturally had to be in my list of tips. I like the brand Slip for mulberry silk pillowcases and I could not recommend it enough!
Not only will silk improve your sleep (you’ll feel like a queen in those sheets!), but it will also reduce friction and creasing on the skin. This tip will not only help you reduce under-eye bags, but it will also improve your skin in every other way possible – all while you rest and wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the day!
3. Sleep on your back
Sleeping on your back is one of the most surefire remedies for under eye bags. This might sound like an odd tip, but sleeping on your back can have a substantial positive impact on your skin’s health, especially for the eye area as it will prevent creases or folding of the delicate tissue on your eyes.
4. Sleep with your head above your heart
This will encourage fluid drainage away from the eye area. You can use rises to very slightly lift the head of the bed or use a large firm pillow – I love the one from Tempur-Pedic.
5. Upgrade your morning routine
Making sure you maximize your bedtime will get you results in no time, but here are other helpful things you can try the morning after that will help you tone and reduce puffiness around your eyes. Make these part of your morning routine for long-term results – they’re super easy!
- Use a caffeine-based tightening eye. My go-to is Alastin eye cream. I use it every morning to tone and reduce puffiness and it never fails me!
- Try a facial toning massager to apply your favorite eye cream.
- Wash your face with cool water and lightly massage it each morning to stimulate blood flow and fluid drainage.
6. Two key remedies for under eye bags to try every day
By sleeping better and changing up your morning routine, you should see an improvement in your under-eye area in no time, but here are a few other tips to implement into your daily habits that are quick and easy!
Drink plenty of water
Water is pretty much my solution for anything, so it naturally had to make it to the list! Make sure you’re drinking at least two liters of water every day.
If you struggle with drinking water, a great tip is to buy a water bottle that really speaks to you and you don’t mind carrying around with you. This will help you take sips throughout the day and keep you hydrated at all times. I also love adding lemon to my water as it revs up your digestion and metabolism!
Curb the salt
Sodium is a no-no when it comes to a healthy lifestyle, and you’d be surprised at how quickly it can affect the area around your eyes. Even though it’s practically impossible to remove salt from the menu at all times, making an effort to reduce your consumption of it will heavily improve your eyes (and your overall health, too!).
